Artist Declan Kelly took his studio to Highlanes Gallery on Culture Night where he demonstrated a range of processes that he was regularly using in his practice, from sketching to painting. Kelly worked in his moved and temporal studio while engaging with the public and revealing some of the artist’s most intimate working processes.

Kelly’s work is based in abstract urban scenes; however, these scenes are as much from reality as they are from the abyss of the psyche. It is uniquely his vision of a semi-reality that surrounds us both figuratively and literally. The artwork is closely themed with journeys and how they influence the changing of a person. It is an open invitation to converge into a new place or perspective and reconcile with both new and remembered, however, this is only achieved with the viewer engaging with the work.

Curated event at Highlanes Gallery, 2011, Drogheda. Part of Culture Night Ireland.
