Meath County Council Arts Office is delighted to present “In:transit”an exhibition of work by Declan Kelly in the Toradh Gallery, Ashbourne Library & Cultural Centre, Ashbourne, Co. Meath. The exhibition was opened by Balbriggan based poet, Christodoulos Makris at 7pm on Tuesday August 11th and ran until September 1st 2015.

This latest exhibition of work, “In:transit”, is the culmination of artistic research and development carried out during the past seven years, including artists residencies in Ghent, Belgium , The Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Co. Monaghan, and the Cill Rialaig Centre, Co. Kerry. It is the most comprehensive body of his work to be shown so far in his career. The exhibition is a series of mixed media images made from drawing and painting materials.

This exhibition is primarily about how journeys transform us, about how we are in a constant state of change during the passage of our lives.  He achieves this transformation by using images based on windows, doors and corridors to allow the viewer to pass into the artwork. This body of work invites the viewer to consider the idea that we navigate through life’s sometimes turbulent ocean and that every place we aim to arrive at will inevitably lead to some unknown place that is altered by our very own procession. It is the unknown that is being forever unveiled before us if only we look past the open doorway and ask what lies there. His work challenges the viewer to question themselves by engaging the work.
